Jan. 6 Committee Is 'Basically a Lynch Mob' - The Hamden Journal Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich lambasted Attorney General Merrick Garland and the committee investigating January 6. Gingrich said the select committee is "basically a lynch mob " that could go to jail if the GOP regains power. Gingrich, a Republican, served as speaker from 1995 to 1999 and unsuccessfully ran for president in 2012.
